Bell is now in rude health, I'm glad to say, even if she's the only one around these parts. She did give me one terrible night, as she seemed much, much sicker the night after her op than she had when we took her in, apparently with the high fever. And she also kindly shared three Incidents of fighting-her-into-the-car Hell with me. I've now got drugs, wrested from the reluctant vet, in case I have to take her back, and am taking the stitches out myself tomorrow.
But having fought with an equally reluctant essay whenever given the chance over the last week, I finally today felt that the good essay I want to write was in there, if still well-hidden, and could probably be wrestled out by Monday. And - ta-da! Was informed tonight that it's to be posted rather emailed, so should be posted tomorrow morning to get to the UK by Monday. Yeah, that's not going to happen.
Finally finished Larklight, which I very much enjoyed. (No time to read, or no brain left to read with, rather than non-enjoyment of the book.) Not easy to do naive narrator successfully (not to mention two naive narrators) and I thought this succeeded about 90% of the time. But honestly - I spotted three instances of hypercorrection ('I' where it should have been 'me') and one 'it's' which should have been 'its'. (Or possibly vice versa on the last.) So what - Bloomsbury can't scrape together the money to pay a copyeditor? Maybe after HP7...
And it's Delurking Week on the blogs. I've been trying to resist reading too many of my regulars, but caught MotherReader's delurk post a few days ago, and A Chair, A Fireplace & a Tea Cozy's tonight, and will probably find many others weeks late....
Got the odd book on the way, so if the crises calm down a little, there might be a return of my normal, pleasurable babbling about books. Eventually.

Date: 2007-01-19 07:39 pm (UTC)I did see your comments, but trying to get my brain wrapped in any direction other than I, Coriander defeated me, I'm afraid. And I think the Dr Who part was directed towards Charlie, right? He might even know about it, what's more. (He's swamped in marking atm, ironically.)
Yay for your book receiving! She seems a really lovely person.
