It's mostly about the books*, so this Bio starts about 10 years ago with me standing with my two daughters in the battered old pre-fab housing the children's section of the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Library. My attention was caught by the title The Lives of Christopher Chant, which sounded fun, so I brought it home to read to Older Daughter.
A cool graphic would be good here, but I'll have to stick with text for now. That book led me (of course) to other books by Diana Wynne Jones, and a few years later, to the DWJ listserve. The listserve provided:
- Friends
- Discussion.
- Lots of book reccomendations
The Discussion (with a whole mess of synchronicity, coincidence, providence - call it what you will) led me, among other places, to an adult education fair in the R.D.S., where I was irresistibly drawn to the Open University's stand, and eventually, to doing a BA in English Lit with them.
The discussion also led to BookCrossing, where I met more friends.
Friends from the DWJ list and BC introduced me to blogs, and LJ in particular, and one friend from DWJ (who's now my Friend) told me about the distance learning option for an MA in Children's Lit in Roehamptom University, and I'm now enrolled in that, starting in September. (That's September 2006, in case I don't update for another few years.)
* Usually I just babble about books - most often children's and YA - which is all you wanted to know anyway, right?
