Brat Camp is the only reality t.v. I ever choose to watch ( Super Sweet Sixteen probably ate a few chunks of my soul before I refused to allow it on while I was in the room!), and everyone in the family finds it pretty addictive. Brief summary, for those whose countries an equivalent hasn't invaded: a group of teens from the UK whose behaviour is totally out of control (generally drugs, drink and violence) are chosen and sent over to wilderness camps - this season it's all girls, and the camp is 'Aspen Achievement Academy', in the middle-of-nowhere in Utah. Utah seems to have a lot of nowhere...

Anyway, last night was (I think) the third in the series, and three girls had done well enough to warrant advancing to the next level (a sort of leadership role in the group), which required a three-day 'Solo': basically just sitting by themselves in the wilds and thinking a lot. One of the girls (very bright) had been bullied and had become depressed and just stopped doing anything except drugs and sleeping, pretty much. She provided one of the most wonderful moments when she pulled a book out of her knapsack and said she'd totally forgotten how much she used to love reading when she was younger, and she'd got this book and it had her in tears by the second chapter because it was just so wonderful. She said when she got home, instead of spending her money on drugs (possibly drink, I'm not totally sure) she might buy books. And the book? The Wizard of Earthsea. Great stuff.
