... this part of which are now enlivened by the sounds of a rooster. A rooster! This isn't exactly the best for neighbourly relations, I'd imagine. Lying in bed this morning I tried to figure out why exactly in English the sound is described as 'cock-a-doodle-doooooo', which doesn't get it accurately at all.* Not so bad now when it's starting about 7, but in the summer, when it gets light at 4 am, I hope there aren't shotguns at dawn. 'If at first you don't fricassee, fry, fry a hen!'**

I was lying in bed with a killer headache - for the second morning in a row. This used to be a very regular occurrence, but since starting acupuncture, just before Christmas, headaches have been much less frequent. Only had three headaches in the month of January, which was amazing. February hasn't been as good, but the almost week-long fever didn't help, so maybe it'll improve soon.

* I'd love to hear what it is in other languages!

** It's a quote, not proof I've lost my mind. Not that I haven't, just that it's not proof.

In Finnish it's 'kukkokiekuu'. Not very imaginative, because kukko = rooster, kiekuu = crows.

Thanks! That's interesting - handy to have to two words so close to the sound made. Unless you were trying to say something like 'the cock crows at cockcrow' too fast.

I can't figure out why I was taught as a small child that they crow at dawn. All the roosters I've heard crow randomly throughout the day and even night! Maybe it's just more often at dawn? Or we hear it because we're already stirring then?

Not good for headaches anyway. In Brisbane you can't keep roosters in urban areas, perhaps to minimise early morning homicides :)

Start practising with a catapult now

... so that at 04.00 in summer, you'll be ready with a plausibly
wild pebble (rather than a regular piece of shot or a marble).
