The King of Attolia
Feb. 6th, 2006 10:29 pmIs here! Got today, started on the way home today, and read (although not very well read) today. I was a little less than completely gripped in the beginning (main protagonist not Eugenides or the Queen of A., and a lot of characters and their allegiances to sort out quickly), but that didn't last too long. And then I skimmed a bit and kept on thinking I must go back and read it properly from the place where I'd skipped, and never managing to make myself do it, and so it went, until I'd finished. (And there was no proper dinner cooked in the house either - such guilt!) I told older daughter that I'd done that, and hated being unable to stop and read it properly, and she said she knew exactly the way of it, and that it made you feel so unclean. Guilty pleasures over a very unguilty pleasure book! I'll go back and read it properly soon, but at least I did guess something very early on, which made me feel less stupid.
Can't wait for others to read it and say what they think, but in the meantime, spoiler comments behind cut. V. sketchy comments, but they will be spoilers. (ETA - scratch that - just realised comments would lead to the cut, so I'll make another entry with that alone, and then only anyone who's read it and wants to comment will see it.)
