Reading and the high-fiber diet
May. 28th, 2004 11:12 amThis is partly a rant (say that first, and get it out of the way), partly a celebration, and mostly an offer to my non-Irish/British friends! Last year Kellogg's offered this amazing deal - most of their healthy cereals (All-Bran, Bran Flakes, Sultana Bran etc.) boxes were labelled with a code, and when you collected four codes you could get an Amazon bestseller for free - including shipping. So many things seem a great deal (like the super shipping at both Amazons - grrr) but then don't apply to Ireland. This one, to my joy and amazement, did! Absolutely fantastic deal, though of course you could only choose from the 15 bestsellers they offered. I got several great books, some of them already wild released through Bookcrossing.
The rant is that the deal was a huge success, and I'm convinced that they're no longer updating the bestsellers as quickly as they were. You can't get boxes with the code any more, but I think you can still order books through August. I just ordered Driving Over Lemons: An Optimist in Andalucia, which has been there for ages, but I've been waiting to see if any fantastic new books got added. Annoyingly there are two of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books there, but not the first (makes sense of course, as there's no reason that would still be on the bestsellers list). Haven't tried those, and have heard rather mixed things about them, so I'm a bit hesitant to buy the first in order to get the other two.

generalblossom, myntti, or pikapolonica would like anything! Here's the list of books on offer at the moment. And I won't be upset in the least no matter how long it sits under/on a Mt. TBR. (If anyone wants Driving Over Lemons, I'll probably just give you my copy, as I doubt I'll want to keep it, Girl with a Pearl Earring ditto (though it's my daughter's, she wasn't impressed), and Lirael - unless there's a GN fan out there who wants a copy to keep, I'll just loan ours as well.)
Oh, and they're supposed to update it each month, so if you want to see if they change radically in June and there's something else you want, feel free to do that instead.
