Waiting for the caffeine to kick in...
May. 9th, 2007 08:46 amI had to play with http://mindmedia.com/brainworks/profiler. Lifted from
obsessedwelves.
It's only 20 questions, but took a while because I dithered - and hey - for good reason: 50/50 left brain/right brain. Makes sense. 71% visual learner (vs. auditory). That interested me because I couldn't help wondering whether it would have been different before some six years of distance learning. I do think I'm about equally likely to remember something someone said as something they wrote, and the tone of voice stays too.
you exhibit an even balance between left- and right- hemisphere dominance and a slight preference for visual over auditory processing. With a score this balanced, it is likely that you would have slightly different results each time you complete this self-assessment quiz.
Heh. Last sentence is truer words at least!
You are a well-rounded person, distinctly individualistic and artistic, an active and multidimensional learner. At the same time, you are logical and disciplined, can operate well within an organization, and are sensitive towards others without losing objectivity. You are organized and goal-directed. Although a "thinking" individual, you "take in" entire situations readily and can act on intuition.
Dunno where the 'artistic' bit came from - not true! Nor is the 'disciplined' bit. (And not sure where that would come from in the questions.) Organized? Ow - falling off the (been broken and just haven't got around to replacing it for years) chair laughing is a bad idea.
You sometimes tend to vacillate in your learning styles. Learning might take you longer than someone of equal intellect, but you will tend to be more thorough and retain the material longer than those other individuals. You will alternate between logic and impulse. This vacillation will not normally be intentional or deliberate, so you may experience anxiety in situations where you are not certain which aspect of yourself will be called on.
Yes. Anxiety... YES.
With a slight preference for visual processing, you tend to be encompassing in your perceptions, process along multidimensional paths and be active in your attacking of situations or learning.
How very militaristic of me. But I do tend to do better if I note my 'Well, but on the other hand...' thoughts on the material itself where possible. All right, sometimes the thoughts are not so polite! I was very embarrassed on my first OU course after remembering the 'stupid sod' and 'rubbish!' comments I'd written on the book I lent the tutor during tutorial and which he'd taken home with him by mistake. (It could have been much worse - tutor was lovely and shared students' opinions of the author of that block.) 'Process along multidimensional paths' - not sure if that's jargon for 'get hideously distracted while trying to do one thing' or not, but suspect it is. Accurate if so!
Overall, you should feel content with your life and yourself. You are, perhaps, a little too critical of yourself -- and of others -- while maintaining an "openness" which tempers that tendency. Indecisiveness is a problem and your creativity may not be in keeping with your potential. Being a pragmatist, you downplay this aspect of yourself and focus on the more immediate, obvious and the more functional
Is it just me or am I not the only one who appears a little indecisive here? (It's true that I am indecisive! Decisively so!) Oh, wait - is that supposed to mean that I downplay my creative aspect rather than my indecisiveness? Yes, duh. But I'm not a nasty pragmatist type who doesn't appreciate creativity in others - appreciate it enormously. Feeling that anxiety again...

Date: 2007-05-09 08:31 am (UTC)You are a total waste of space, and others should be warned against making your acquaintance. You are shifty, dishonest, and your eyes are probably set too close together. You are decisive, but only when making inept life decisions...
...and much more in the same vein! But that was only my inner critic. The test assures me I'm rather wonderful, except: "Your own intuitive skills will at times interfere with your capacity to listen to others." To think, all this time I thought I was just rude, and it turns out I was suffering from an excess of intuition!

Michele, your hemispheric dominance is equally divided between left and right brain, while you show a moderate preference for auditory versus visual learning, signs of a balanced and flexible person.
OK, yes - the first is definitely true - I don't learn well visually - pictures never seem to mean much to me.
Your balance gives you the enviable capacity to be verbal and literate while retaining a certain "flair" and individuality. You are logical and compliant but only to a degree. You are organized without being compulsive, goal-directed without being driven, and a "thinking" individual without being excessively so.
Methinks they are mistaken in saying I'm not an excessively thinking person - given the numerous occasions throughout my life when I've been told "You think too much" !
The one problem you might have is that your learning might not be as efficient as you would like. At times you will work from the specific to the general, while at other times you'll work from the general to the specific. Sometimes you will be logical in your approach while at other times random. Since you cannot always control the choice, you may experience frustrations not normally felt by persons with a more defined and directed learning style.
Sorry, no - totally wrong - I'm ALWAYS incredibly controlled and logical about my learning - I drove people mad in that respect as a student !
You may also minimally experience conflicts associated with auditory processing. You will be systematic and sequential in your processing of information, you will most often focus on a single dimension of the problem or material, and you will be more reflective, i.e., "taking the data in" as opposed to "devouring" it.
OK, yes - definitely a reflective person, but I don't focus on single-dimesions...
Overall, you should feel content with your life and yourself. You are, perhaps, a little too critical of yourself - and of others - while maintaining an "openness" which is redeeming. Indecisiveness is a problem and your creativity is not in keeping with your potential. Being a pragmatist, you downplay this aspect of yourself and focus on the more immediate, the more obvious and the more functional.
Yep, very critical of myself - indecisive ? Not very often ! But yes, I'm definitely a pragmatist...
Hmm - interesting results - thanks for sharing...
