Quite right re the head-covering not being unique to Islam - I remember that my grandmother always used to wear a hat to church (I'm Anglican) and women had to cover their heads going to Mass until much more recently. In fact, I asked my mother when it stopped being a requirement in the Anglican church, and she didn't know - but just came up with this link (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,766712,00.html) Interesting, I thought!
And also very much agree about the teen rebellion/independence-showing aspect of all this. Which generally makes me want to cheer them on and a little bit makes me want to tell them to just do it and get over their self-dramatizing selves... Depending on how much of a cranky old lady mood I'm in.
