The nest: half-empty or half-full?
Sep. 6th, 2007 09:54 amMore changes on the way here, as Older Daughter has got a place with three friends and will be moving (I'm going to bite back the 'out' after 'moving', I think) as soon as it's finished being refurbished - probably the end of next week. I rather ruined the 'I'm fine with it' deal by having to stop talking every single time I said 'I'm fine with it' so I didn't start crying, but I actually am. (And since I'm writing rather than saying it this time, y'all can read that with the appropriatey breezy insouciant tone - I do love the word 'insouciant'...) Their place is in Raheny - other side of town but very near the DART line, so easy to get from there to town, here, her uni, etc. And we shall meet for many cups of tea - perhaps some in the coffee shop right by her called 'The Nut House'. Heh.
The nest, btw, will definitely be half-full, with Younger Daughter here. Although perhaps even the 'half-' to that is more negative than is warranted, such excellent company is she.
With respect to other slightly less-than-bog-standard families -- I was in town yesterday and wandered idly into a bookshop (looking, if at all actively looking for anything, for Conor Kostick's new one, which won't be out until October, apparently) and got hit in the face with the rather startling pinkness of Hilary McKay's Forever Rose - the latest and final Casson family book. I knew it was coming out, due to the wonderful blog-tour interview with her on Bookshelves of Doom, but hadn't got around to checking if it would be out here before Spring '08, so this surprise find was pure instant gratification. I'd planned to savour it, and keep for the half-hour in bed at night reading, but managed to blow that plan already last night. I did stop about half-way through, so not totally lacking in self-discipline. Loving it so far, and will say more when I've finished. And sorry about the unabashed joy over this find when there's a while to go in the States!
