Yup, even turning forty-frickin-nine isn't enough to make me suddenly disciplined. I was so expecting it would, too..

The slight despondency of the birthday yesterday had nothing whatsoever to do with my N&Ds, who were all lovely. I got two beautiful knitting books from my sister, one with a card done - pause while gather energy to explain this - by her (my sister's) husband's second wife (my sister was his third and final wife, but he died about 20 years ago, and the second wife died some time before (I think) when the ceiling of a building (in India maybe?) she was painting collapsed on her), the picture being of the husband and second wife dancing together, with their dog Rufus sitting nearby. I love my odd family!Very nice pressies from the girls too, including a blank book with quotes and some DVD-happiness. (Y.D. will even put up with my inevitable comments while watching Veronica Mars with me, which is a great act of loving acceptance! I try not to talk, but get caught up in it and completely forget. At least I'm better than O.D., who disses the show, and then sits at the computer asking repeatedly 'Who's he now?' - about the fifth time, Y.D. said 'He's STILL Logan!')

To the query/request... A truly life-enhancing present was an internet radio (my mother and [livejournal.com profile] steepholm in cahoots) so I'll never again be deprived of Radio 4 while cooking or cleaning up in the kitchen, by the sheer evil of cricket coverage. (I don't care who likes listening to it, and nobody can make me! It'd be excruciatingly boring for me even if it weren't replacing PM or the news.) But for the very odd time when there's nothing on Radio 4 FM that I want to listen to, does anyone have any wonderful radio stations that I should try to pick up? Or more specifically, does anyone know of a radio station on which I can hear The Daily Show? There are apparently about 5,000 stations available now, and I really shouldn't work my way through all of them...

Oh no. It's raining again... I don't mind a bit of rain, obviously (since I live in Ireland by choice, rather than circumstance) but it's gone on so long now it is definitely causing excess headaches, depression and brain-fungicization. (Weird. Xjournal actually seems to think there is such a word.)
