Sep. 16th, 2006 09:09 pmNice lunch in town yesterday with
wyvernfriend, and much booktalk. On the way home I checked (The Dublin Bookshop) for The Pinhoe Egg, which hadn't been in the shops I'd checked on the way to lunch. And oddly enough, there it was. In all its ugly coverliness.
Headed on down to the DART station, got in just as they were making a typically incomprehensible announcement about the arriving train, which sounded as if it was going my way, so rushed on up the escalator, quick look at the monitor, which showed the train was going to Bray, and hopped on. I thought I must have misheard when the (computer) voice said over the train's announcer that the service was for Bray, next stop Bray. But no. I'd never encountered this particular DART, which seems particularly useless, as it follows a regular, stop-everywhere one, and so could go no faster at all, for not stopping. There I was, stuck on till it got to Bray and I could get off and come back the other direction.
Right - the Diana Wynne Jones people reading this will have spotted immediately the cause of this stupid mix-up: her travel jinx. As they go, it wasn't too bad, but maybe it's as well that
dorianegray didn't (presumably) get her copy before today's flight. Not very impressed so far, which is a bit sad, but more when I've finished.
Did finish Twelve Sharp -( Rambling about the book )
