Let me scotch this right away, lest it become an Internet Truth that I foisted this book on lady_schrapnell with an ardent recommendation. It's true she's reading it for our history project, but she tracked it down without any help from me. If I'd known what it was like I would of course have flung myself between her and it, and taken the cliche right in the heart.
