Tale of Despereaux

lady_schrapnellFinished this yesterday, and had serious reservations, as I said in my journal entry. I'd really like to hear other people's reactions to it, but not sure I'll manage even to get my daughter to read it - she nearly gagged on the first couple of pages. I liked it more than that, but not as much as I'd expected.
It's just to be expected, I guess - had such high expectations for this and was disappointed, and had no expectations really for The Mary-Sue Extrusion, and ended up really liking it a lot.
Meanwhile the girls have just finished watching Freaky Friday, a film which everyone expected to be pretty awful and it was really cute! Guess we'll all just have to reverse expectations before reading or watching anything. On which note I am expecting terrible things from Time to Depart (Lindsey Davis) and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which I see tomorrow)!
